The Analytical Psychology Club presents:
The Virgin Mary as Symbol:
The Worship of Woman as the Worship of Soul
Presented by J. Gordon Nelson, Ph.D.
At the core of psychological change lies the mystery of the virgin birth, a psychological experience that Jung considered necessary for human growth and development. This symbol acts with such independent power that religions and myths proclaim this in the veneration of the Virgin Mary, an
archetype intrinsic to individuation. In this talk we will focus on the development of this symbolism, and the possibility of
authentic change and growth in both the individual and the culture that lies within it.
J. Gordon Nelson, Ph.D., is a Jungian analyst and clinical psychologist in Santa Monica. He has taught the Collected Works Reading Program as well as many individual courses on Jung. He served as the president of the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles and chair of its certifying board for new analysts.
Pre-registration (recommended) until 5:00pm of the lecture day for evening lectures; or Friday, 5:00pm for week-end workshops. At Door fee applies after.
