The Analytical Psychology Club:
Presented by Paul Gabrinetti, Ph.D.
A significant part of the heroic struggle is in the returning and reuniting with earthly humanity. This evening we will look at the final section of the Odyssey. Odysseus has come to the Isle of Calypso in shambles, in need of healing, and he finds every need met in a paradisiacal setting. He has gone through the death and dismemberment of the old king and while on the island has been healed with the help of the great mother in the form of Calypso. If he chooses to surrender his human life, he will become immortal and stay forever with her. Stuck in this transitional state, he sacrifices genuine life and sustaining love. This presentation will explore the return home to earthly humanity faced by the heroic in any of us, particularly in the second half of life.
