The Hilde Kirsch Children's Center

The Hilde Kirsch Children's Center (HKCC) located at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles, is the first and only Jungian Children's Center in the United States. Gloria Avrech It was founded in December 1978, at the request of one of L.A.’s founding analysts, Hilde Kirsch. The HKCC was established to support and educate analysts, candidates in training, along with parents, teachers, and others in the community who work with children. Our goal is to demonstrate how Analytical Psychology can inform our understanding of the development of the psyche and be applied to the therapeutic treatment of children and adolescents.

Since the inception of the Hilde Kirsch Children’s Center, analysts and candidates have treated child and adolescent patients in the Institute’s clinic, providing sliding scale, low fee Jungian therapy to children in the Los Angeles area. Treatment modalities such as Sandplay, art therapy, play therapy and dream work are provided. Interested parents and legal guardians should contact the Jung Institute for an application.

An ongoing Child Study Group with case presentations was begun concurrently with the child clinic and has been the educational bedrock of the Children’s Center. Throughout our 29-year history a core group of analysts, candidates, and more recently interns have met to study a broad array of clinical material pertaining to the development of the child’s psyche from in utero through adolescence, and to apply this knowledge to case material.

The C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles offers a child analyst training program and certification after a candidate’s successful completion of certification as a Jungian analyst. We are the first American Jung Institute to offer a Child Analyst training program.

The HKCC provides programs regarding Jungian Child Therapy to the public, through course work and through the Institute’s Public Programs, and to analysts, candidates and interns through the Analysts' Training Program. Please watch for our upcoming public presentations offered through the Institute's Public Programs, and for the Edith Sullwold Memorial Lectures in the Fall of each year.

Please direct questions regarding HKCC programs to the Director, Gloria Avrech, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., phone: (626) 792-9483.
