Continuing Education: 3 CE Credits Available.

Integrating principles from somatic psychology, Jungian psychology, and creative expressive arts modalities, this in-person experiential workshop introduces participants to somatic movement and image-making practices that support access to implicit, embodied, and symbolic dimensions of experience. Through guided movement, visual expression, and reflective writing, participants will explore how bodily sensation, gesture, image, and symbol can give form to inner experience that may not be easily verbalized. Participants will have opportunities to practice techniques that support self-regulation, embodied attunement, and symbolic expression in clinical work. No prior art or movement/dance experience is needed. Art materials will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a journal for reflective writing.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify two somatic movement and image-making practices that may support self-regulation, creative insight, and embodied therapeutic attunement.
  • Describe how kinesthetic sensations, gesture, posture, and nonverbal expression may provide information about emotional states and implicit experience.
  • Analyze how somatic movement and image-making may help individuals identify, differentiate, and symbolically express feeling states.
  • Apply one somatic or image-making intervention to a clinical example involving psychosomatic symptoms or nonverbal emotional expression.
  • Explain how integrating experiential and reflective practices may support clinical attunement, emotional differentiation, and symbolic understanding in psychotherapy..
