Analyst Training Program

The C.G. Jung Institute offers a structured continuing education program that provides intensive analytic training to qualified mental health professionals. The program leads to certification as a Jungian Analyst, the title conferred by qualified Institutes under the supervision of the International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP), which connotes extensive training in the depth of psychological tradition extending from the original thinking of C.G. Jung. The IAAP oversees 58 member institutes worldwide and maintains a rigorous standard of training for institutes to meet to certify a trainee as a Jungian Analyst.

The Analyst Training Program integrates theory and practice through seminars based on readings of Jungian thought leaders with an emphasis on the Collected Works of C.G. Jung, participation in a minimum of 2 years of group supervision and 6+ years of individual supervision, and participation in their own individual analysis throughout their time in the training program.  Candidates must demonstrate their ability to self-reflect and relate to others with a respectful psychological attitude that demonstrates a respect for inner and outer diversity.   Certification as an Analyst is determined by the Certifying Board after satisfactory completion of all requirements of the program. Certified Jungian Analysts who have completed this program are elected to membership in the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles, at which time they become members of the IAAP and are awarded a Diploma in Analytical Psychology.

Continuing education units for candidates who are licensed as clinical psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and nurses are available for each course offering in the program.

Cost of Training

For the 2024-2025 training year, tuition for candidates in the Preparatory and Candidacy Stages is $4,740 and $2,910 for candidates in the Control Stage. Credit card payments may be arranged upon payment of a handling fee for each transaction. Fees for personal analysis, control analysis, and certain other activities are additional and are established on an individual basis. One hour per week of supervision for candidates in the Preparatory and Candidacy Stages is provided with no charge.

Qualifications for Application for Admission

Requirements

Prior to applying for training, the individual must have completed a minimum of 100 hours of personal analysis with an IAAP-certified Jungian analyst and must be in analysis with an IAAP-certified Jungian Analyst at the time of applying to the program. The Admissions Committee encourages applicants to have consistent Jungian analysis during the year preceding application for training.

Personal analysis serves both the individuation of our training program candidates and their development as an analyst. Given the individual nature of analysis and its importance for the candidate beyond the training requirement, setting up guidelines for the personal analysis component is complex. One of our values as a community is for in-person, embodied experiences. That applies to analysis as well as our training seminars. To that end, we expect prospective applicants to work with analysts at our institute. While we believe that working with an analyst at our institute while in training constitutes the optimal arrangement, what is in the candidate's best interest will be considered at the time of application.

The applicant must legally be able to practice psychotherapy in the state of California. This means the applicant must be licensed in the state of California before starting our Analyst Training Program. Professional experience and clinical skills will be evaluated.

In selecting candidates for training, we are looking for individuals with flexible and mature egos who have the potential to think symbolically and to engage with the psyche of their patients. This program is not only academic. It includes the development of oneself as a person who can engage with the unconscious in an open, reflective, and collaborative manner. To this end, personal analysis is of central importance both before and throughout training. Applicants will be evaluated through their written applications and meetings with members of the Admissions Committee.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The C. G. Jung Institute administers its policies for admission and throughout the training program without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, ethnic or national origin, marital status, age, or disability as designated by applicable law.

Application Form for Admission

Application for admission to the training program is made to the Admissions Committee on forms available from the C.G. Jung Institute. The original and four (4) copies of the completed application must be received by March 8th of the year for which the application for admission is being made. The Admissions Committee will strive to reach its decision about applicants in April of that same year. The application, together with a $250 non-refundable application fee, should be sent to:
